My first impression of her was watching "Jesus of Nazareth" with my mom. Anne played Mary Magdalene and her performance immediately burned itself into my memory. When everyone else in the mob is calling for Barabbas to be set free, Mary screamed for her beloved Jesus to no avail.
Her love affair with a fellow book lover whom she never met face to face in "84 Charing Cross Road", her tortured and torturous Ms. Dinsmoor in "Great Expectations", the frazzled matriarch of Holly Hunter and Robert Downey Jr. in "Home for the Holidays", and smoking pot on the front porch with Ellen Burstyn in "How to Make an American Quilt".
Anne was amazing and should be a legend, joining the pantheon with Kate and Audrey, Grace and Madeline. Every time she showed up in a movie, she was more than worth watching. I will miss looking forward to that.
